So waiting here at the Frankfurt Airport after a 9 hour flight where I couldn't sleep. I feel surprisingly awake! Trying to find my gate for my next flight to Gdansk was certainly a lesson in patience and being alert. But...when an airport employs around 50,000 workers - no joke(!), and thousands of visitors fly in and out every hour, I guess it's no wonder things are slightly chaotic!
Just as I was getting a bit panicky while looking at the flight board, I heard a voice at my side saying “Hi Jae!” I turned around and one of my neighbours from Calgary was grinning back at the surprised look on my face.
Adam and his family immigrated to Canada from Poland a number of years ago, and I often met his family and him as we passed by one another’s homes on the same street over the years.
And, here we both were now at the Frankfurt Airport.
I found out that Adam was actually on my flight to Frankfurt from Calgary as well and was now waiting for his flight to Wroclaw, Poland. He was returning to visit his Grandmother.
This city was also where I would be headed eventually on my 8 day WWII Site Tour in the next few days. After he pointed out the way I needed to go, we parted and he went on his way and I went on mine.
What a small world! Whenever I need help and ask for it, I am always sent an “angel”, and this time was no exception! Such a cool meeting!
I'm just so amused by my spontaneity and thoughts have crossed my mind as to "What am I doing?", but I'm more excited to see what this adventure will bring and the reasons I have been "called" to do this trip. I'm sure those reasons will not present themselves until a later date, so for the time being, I just get to go with the flow!
My next flight to Gdansk is about 7 hours away, though it is only an hour and a bit to get there! Go figure! All good things take time and so I will use my time to sleep - hopefully!
I will write again as soon as I am able. Look forward to sharing my journey with all of you! Bye for now!
Cheers, Jae
